Downsizing? Estate? Life Change? Call Jean-Marie !
Jean-Marie Caterina, Broker, SRES, has been licensed as a real estate agent since 2002. She has enjoyed 16 years of serving the people of Scarborough and surrounding towns in meeting their real estate needs. Specializing in the real estate needs of seniors has come easily to Jean-Marie. Every year of her real estate sales practice has seen an increase in the number of families who have needed to sell a house due to a change in their life circumstances. It is a very stressful time in their lives, requiring a person with knowledge and skill to guide the process. With a Master’s Degree in Social Work and extensive experience in navigating the pitfalls of state and federal government programs, Jean-Marie has what it takes to make the experience as smooth as possible for everyone involved.
In June of 2014, Jean-Marie decided that achieving the National Association of REALTORS designation of Seniors Real Estate Specialist made sense given the direction of her practice. After completing the extensive coursework and passing an exam, Jean-Marie has earned the SRES designation. Three years prior, she was acting as power of attorney and then executor for her own father – an experience that gave her more empathy and understanding of the situations in which clients find themselves. “My father’s diagnosis of dementia, placement in memory care, and sale of his house to settle the estate were eye opening., “states Jean-Marie. “Anything I can do to lessen the burden for other families, I am happy to do. “
While some of Jean-Marie’s clients have been referred by attorneys specializing in Elder Law, she is happy to talk to those who are not quite sure of the next steps to take. “ I make sure to meet with all parties involved in the decision to sell the family home. Together we make a plan that might involve referrals to other professionals, particularly lawyers who specialize in Elder Care and professionals who help navigate Maine Care. Frequently, the house needs to be cleaned out. I help with finding professionals who do that. I might bring in painters or carpenters, staging folks or others who can help bring the best price for the property. The bottom line is that the family is not dealing with all of the details. They are free to deal with the transition while I get their house sold. “
Jean-Marie has been a member of the Senior Advisory Board in Scarborough and currently serves as a Town Councilor there. A senior herself, she lives on Gorham Road with her husband, and real estate partner, Geoffrey MacLean. Together they have sold over 500 houses. The Caterina MacLean Group, is affiliated with The Maine Real Estate Network, Maine’s largest real estate company. Jean-Marie and Geoff and their staff serve from Brunswick to Wells and everywhere in between. Give them a call today! 207-318-3440 is Jean-Marie’s direct line.
